Gulick Delicatessen Kalihi is a no-frills spot for hearty, home-style plate lunches that reflect the diverse food culture of Honolulu’s Kalihi neighborhood. This restaurant draws a steady local crowd looking for familiar, satisfying meals that remind many of classic okazuya flavors—think garlic chicken, chow fun, and musubi in various forms alongside a handful of fresh sushi options.

The atmosphere here isn’t about polished dining or trendy decor; it’s practical and straightforward, with a focus on quick, reliable takeout or casual sit-down meals. The small interior and limited seating mean this place often buzzes quietly with the rhythm of regulars grabbing lunch or picking up comfort food for the day. Expect a middling parking situation with street parking being the go-to choice, especially during busier lunch hours.

Visitors tend to appreciate the balance of affordable prices with generous portions that lean toward individual servings—almost tapas-style, giving the chance to try various dishes at once. The menu highlights include a mix of island-style plate lunches like garlic chicken chow and bento combos along with familiar sides such as potato salad and the tangy sweetness of namasu. Varieties of sushi and musubi make it a versatile stop for anyone craving a quick bite with local flair.

This deli is well suited for those who want a taste of everyday Kalihi comfort food—folks who grew up in the area or are curious about authentic Hawaiian lunch counters. Mid-mornings to early afternoon tend to be a steady window to visit, especially on weekdays, when workers and families swing by for a dependable meal. The kitchen staff's long tenure adds a sense of stability and consistency that longtime customers clearly appreciate.

In short, Gulick Delicatessen fits quietly into its neighborhood as a familiar, approachable place where food recalls childhood memories or convenient local favorites without fuss. It’s less about dining out and more about grabbing a plate that feels like a genuine slice of Honolulu’s lunch culture.

Great place for a plate lunch or two. Noodles, chicken, chow fun, nishime, shoyu butterfish, etc. If your in the area, stop by. Parking is kind of hard to find though. Street parking is the best. It's an affordable place and well worth the price. Friendly people and good service. They even sell sushi too. Come...Check em out.

It was pretty good. Since it was my first time there, we ordered a whole bunch of stuff. I liked the garlic and spicy chicken. The namasu was super good! The chow fun and the long rice were okay. The vegetable tempura would have been the bomb if it was still hot, fresh out of the fryer. Another great thing about it was that they had the diamond head strawberry soda! So delicious.

We went Tuesday about 1030a. There is a small section of free parking and street parking available. I usually will go here if I'm in the area and if II'm craving for the old style okazuya sushi roll. We also ordered some cone sushi. Okazuya food is reliable and good

I grew up in Kalihi, Gulick Deli just brings back memories of my childhood. Always on my must place to visit whenever I’m in town. The food is just as good as I remember. However, the prices has gone up lately.

An oldie but goodie. The dishes offered at this delicatessen integrates the diversity of Hawaii. Bimbap, Eggplant pork, ume musubi, chow fun, mochiko chicken, the list goes on and on. The servings are intended for a one person portion. Similiar to tapas. The food is undeniable good. What is more delightful, the workers have worked here for a decade or more. It's worth a try and from the location in the center of Kalihi, you will enjoy all the flavors of Hawaii in every bite.

I got to try their bento #1 and it really was good. Each one I chose, shoyu chicken & fried sweet potato & fried noodles & spam, were all good. Each one seemed to have been cooked appropriately to give out such good flavor. Now I can see why they are so busy. This is a gem.
